First visit was in ‘65, with high school band, I was a senior.
    2nd, 3rd, & 4th, with my husband & children.
Last visit in 2005, with granddaughter and Safety Patrols.
Don’t grow old and say, “I wish I had gone on that trip”.
Go! And live long enough to share your memories with your family by going again, with them.

Everyone’s trips are going to work differently. SOme trips will have extremely strict schedules to follow, some will be very open, and others will be a mixture of the two.

I went to school in Virginia from K-12th grade and I took an untold amount of trips to D.C. throughout the years, but I never did have to stay the night considering they were always day trips due to the close proximity.

How long are you staying? If you’re staying for any length of time that will change the price range. Also, the gourmet food thing – sure, D.C. has gourmet food, but they also have food just like the rest of the country. If you have a preplanned schedule that calls for dining at a gourmet restaurant, then yes, that’s what you’ll be eating. However, if you don’t have a preplanned schedule, then you have the choice of whether you want gourmet or not.

Since I don’t have much information about your trip, I can only base your $1000 given price on what I do know from my trips, and this is that $1000 is an outrageous amount. I can’t imagine what you would be doing that would cost so much. First off, the museums that you might try to go to are free. Most of them in D.C. are. Also, the monuments are free – the Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington, and the memorials. Clearly the most logical source of transportation is the Metro (called a subway other places, but strictly the Metro in D.C.), and your best bet on that would be to buy a day ticket so that you don’t have to buy a new one each time you get board.

The only prices that you would have to factor in are hotel accommodations (if you’re staying in one), food, souvenirs, and transportation to the city.

I could probably provide you with more information if I hd more details.
