Can you help me with a black and white theme party?

Kiss The Cook asked:
My friend is relying on me to plan her party. It’s a black and white theme party. She is turning 15 so it’s gonna be big! 60 people are invited. So I need ideas for decorations and food! I am part of the 4 important girls in the party, like the brides maids in a wedding, but this is her birthday. Please help!!

I don’t live in the U.S so please don’t tell me to go party stores, I need to know what to decorate in the party, with what and how.
It’s not going to be a dinner so just finger food, what would be some nice “gourmet looking” food, this is like a classical party too.

my friend did this for new year’s eve: the decorations were basically black, white and silver balloons, with black and white crepe paper strung throughout her house. she also bought black and white drink cups, and alternated them by color when she stacked them.
at the party had little weiner wraps, cheese and crackers, and a large bowl of punch (hawaiian punch+sprite+sorbet). we also had five variations of sparkling grape juice (sparkling green apple, sparkling pomegranate, sparkling blood orange) (those are all i remember- sparkling blood orange was gross though). you can serve the sparkling grape juice in wine glasses- that’ll look classy =)
hope this helped!

The decorating ideas already given sound good. For recipes and food suggestions, I’d recommend using a cooking site to find good ones. My site of choice is. They have a great selection. To start with, type ‘black and white’ or even just ‘finger foods’ into the search box and see what you find. For that matter, go to and type ‘recipes finger foods black and white’ into their search box — or even ‘party ideas black and white.’ If nothing comes up, all you’ve lost is about 30 seconds. If you can get them, some crackers are almost white (like ‘water crackers’) and could be served on black serving plates with a selection of toppings alongside — so the white of the cracker shows up starkly against the black plate.
For another decorating idea, if you can’t get paper party supplies in your country, take plain white tablecloths (cloth or paper whatever your country does) and accent them with black. Make a simple table runner (a piece of cloth or paper about 12″ or 30cm wide and as long as the tablecloth) of black and place that lengthwise down the center of each table. Find some black ribbons and attach them to the corners of the tables. If you can get them, use black napkins (serviettes) at each place.
There. I hope that helps get you thinking in a good direction to come up with more ideas of your own. Happy party planning!
